Affordable Housing Halton is a community-based nonprofit organization committed to the creation of affordable housing for low and modest income residents; and to alleviating homelessness and the lack of affordable housing in the Halton community.
Our Vision is that all people in Halton can live with dignity in safe, stable and affordable housing, within an inclusive and healthy community.
Earlier this year Affordable Housing Halton was the recipient of a $136,200 Ontario Trillium Foundation community grant over two years to hire a coordinator to support the work of a multi-stakeholder group of individuals and organizations to find innovative and collaborative ways to address the growing need for affordable accessible housing in Halton. Funding will also support public forums that will raise awareness of local housing issues. With this funding, a Director of Community Development was hired to drive this initiative forward.
In the summer of this year, a group of community stakeholders came together to hear Renee Wetslaar, a Social Planner with the Social Planning & Research Council talk about the work of the Affordable Housing Flagship in bringing together government, voluntary, labour, business and not-for-profit sectors to work in innovative and collaborative ways to ensure affordable housing is part of a vibrant community. Out of this session came a commitment to form the Halton Housing Alliance to work collaboratively to ensure affordable housing is part of our community in Halton with the vision that there is a home for everyone.
