November 20th: National Housing Day 2014
Affordable Housing Halton and the Halton Housing Alliance invite you to join us November 20th as we mark the 16th NATIONAL HOUSING DAY .
Back in 1998, the Big City Mayor’s Caucus of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) declared that homelessness in Canada had reached crisis proportions and called on senior levels of government to come up with a national housing strategy. Since then, November 22 has been marked as National Housing Day.
This past October, FCM launched the National Forum on Housing and the Economy (NFHE) The Forum consists of national business groups, not-for-profit, industry and professional associations and local governments. According to the FCM the NFHE has developed a set of shared principles for achieving lasting improvements in Canada’s housing system. We appreciate the efforts undertaken by the members of FCM and the NFHE to encourage the federal government to work with all levels of government and key stakeholders to address the issue of affordable housing.
FCM and the rest of the NFHE members are encouraging the federal government to work with all orders of governments, along with major stakeholders in the housing sector, to implement these principles.
